• Craig~~Personally I don’t think the Fed will allow the inflation to happen, but there’s obviously only one way for it to prevent that and that’ll be higher interest rates and it will have to destroy money by doing the reverse of quantitative easing. You will slowly hear our necks cracking in the resulting debt noose if we don’t get our fiscal house in order. Slowly and surely the interest payments on the debt will command a greater and greater percentage of the Federal as the economy is restricted by higher interest rates. Throw in a supply side shock, like oil in the early 80s (that couldn’t possibly happen, right?) and we’ll have a serious problems on our hands. less4h ago

  john begg Craig~the only thing I can conclude down here is that we are, and have been, in a Depression for some years now. There really isn’t any other conclusion to reach. In the garbled language of the Fed–we are in a state of “negative inflation,” being less 2%-and have been for 5 years-FIVE years–notwithstanding a monetary policy that creates a trillion dollars a year in fiat money used to finance debt buy-backs. NO inflation. This is only possible if we are in a Depression-a condition characterized by mass unemployment and collapsing prices~how else can you explain a trillion dollars a year created of whole cloth and no economic ramifications of any kind–NO inflation of any kind?~Jack less3h ago

• Craig~~We are and from the Great Depression they want to do everything possible to prevent deflation. Yet think about it. If gas were suddenly $1 per gallon, consumers would save the $2+ per gallon and be able to spend that money elsewhere. Falling prices are indicative of recession, but in actuality the Fed isn’t permitting prices to fall, in my view that is doing us a disservice.

•  and hasn’t even noticed that there has been NO inflation despite the monetary and fiscal promiscuity
