Impressionist French art takes its sweet name from a savage, biting, satire~~

Claude Monet’s Impression, Sunrise (Musée Marmottan Monet, Paris) exhibited in 1874, gave the Impressionist movement its name when the critic Louis Leroy accused it of being a sketch or “impression,” not a finished painting. and M. Leroy savagely lampooned the work~~as did all the Academy critics of his day~~

How embarrassed those critics must be today, in blue heaven~~

Put to the quick, children~~M. Levy and his Academy friends were not “impressed” with the men who became the Impressionists French~~
