Misadventures of cat versus bird is as old as time~and does not lend to political meddling~

Naughty bits, well perhaps, but cats hunting birds is really not the forum for political reformation. There is a message in that for us someplace~~let’s try to sort out what that message may be~~

While my Party, earlier called the “Party of the thinking man,” has historically been known for being steadfast it’s beliefs~~whatsoever they may be~~despite all costs~~today is a Party at war with Herself~~actually a good and a healthy condition in a Republic~~

Meanwhile, The Democrats, yes, those people, have, some years ago, fallen off a cliff into a political polar vortex that, at bottom, leaves the Democrats with no dissent among its factions and an agreed, singular and religious vocation to always look~~despite all costs~~simply, ridiculous~~simply ridiculous~~

Reading today of the, very likely last ever, Democratic egghead to seek the Captain’s chair, Governor Adlai Ewing Stevensen, II, I came across this note to share, about what it was like, seemingly centuries ago, yet in reality just yesterday, when a man of considerable charm and wit was able to hold high office~~

In Illinois~~

Yes, in Illinois, I said that and I meant that~~

After having chosen for sidekicks in both 1952 and 1956, two flagrant segregationalists and unregenerate racialists, Adlai was decimated both times by Ike, carrying only the States that comprised the Old Confederacy.~~

Not fettered by those mishaps, Adali went home to Illinois to become Governor and deal with the really taxing political troubles of his day~~

Adlai proved adroit at such tasks and to be a popular public speaker, gaining a national reputation as an intellectual, with a self~deprecating sense of humor to match~~

Zounds!!~~remember them~~politicians with a sense of humor?~~

To Wit~~

When the Illinois state legislature passed a bill (supported by bird lovers) declaring that cats roaming unescorted was a public nuisance.~~

Adlai vetoed the bill, and sent this public message regarding the veto:~~

“It is in the nature of cats to do a certain amount of unescorted roaming…the problem of cat versus bird is as old as time. If we attempt to solve it by legislation who knows but what we may be called upon to take sides as well in the age-old problem of dog versus cat, bird versus bird, or even bird versus worm. In my opinion, the State of Illinois and its local governing bodies already have enough to do without trying to control feline delinquency. For these reasons, and not because I love birds the less or cats the more, I veto and withhold my approval from Senate Bill No. 93.”~~

Can you imagine, dears, any Democrat today, consumed as those children are, in being locked in their death spiral of righteous polar vortex, having or even understanding~~a sense of humor?~~

Heavens NO~~

As for my Party, consumed as She is with internecine squabbling and too taken with, hyperbolically stated, “Serious Constitutional issues,” how likely is She to care about such a thing as being lighthearted?~~

Hell, NO~~

We very much need a Presidential candidate who can be light of heart and even, perish, make fun of himself~~yes, of himself~~can you imagine that ?~~

Laws to prohibit Nature Herself are doomed to failure~~
