It has been a very long night writing of interesting things, of which, finance is never one, so take this letter for its message on a pedestrian topic, and stow the edits.

You seek a large-scale correction of equity markets?
~~
You may have to wait for a while.
~~
I think at least until the new Senate is seated in January, there even then, I can’t think that there will be any meaningful easing of QE usings–QEs put the country in an awful mess and truly so–the markets have become addicted to them.

The gravitational pull of the markets that we all learned about as schoolboys just don’t apply in the age of QE usings.
~~
Who will be the public man who dares to pull the plug on all this?
~~
Politicians are not daring men.
~~
The habituation to QE usings is going to be very hard to break and painful and the people have had too much pain already.
~~
Those who live in capital will continue the joyride and it’s a swell and exhilaratingly fast ride, in a gorgeous car.
~~
But how many of such men as us are there in America and what of the vast majority who don’t understand the game and have no stake in it–they watch the sleek, fast cars of finance, roar by and wonder in alarm and frustration?
~~
Who will explain to them what has happened when the deal goes south?
~~
Men who live in capital will cash out their chips and go off and drink and laugh:
~~
It’s a swell life.
~~
What of all the others who do not even understand what we are discussing here:
~~
And who are likewise powerless to do anything even if they did understand as they lack for all capital?
~~
Many men are now rich by happy accident.
~~
But it is a contrived happy accident.
~~
QE usings are very naughty contrivances and it is hard for me to see any abrupt end to them, as–to end them is to bite the hand that feeds.

Never bite the hand that feeds.
