War for me is a post card, a picture scrap book, a coffee table photograph of the memories of other men’s lives.~

“Do not blame the generals and the men for fighting the wars.

~~

Kings, politicians and rich businessmen start wars, soldiers merely fight in them and die in them.”

~~

Girls are always very curious creatures.

~~

Girls ask:

~~

“Were you in the Army as a boy, Johnnie?”

~~

The Army?

The Army is a place where, some guy who you don’t know and have never heard of, gives you a gun to go out and shoot some other guy who you don’t know and have never heard of:

~~

And:

~~

That other guy you are sent out to shoot, likewise was himself, given a gun by some guy he doesn’t know and has never heard of, to go out and shoot:

~~

YOU.

~~

That’s:

~~

The Army.

~~

A little Mexican girl, whom I love, likely too much, asked me in the night, in my fever, in my sleepless delirium:

“Did you go to the war, daddy darling?

vietnam the real war

To the Vietnam?”

New lives: In the four decades since then, many veterans have embarked on careers, raised families and in many cases counseled a younger generation emerging from two other faraway wars (photo from 1966)

Did I go to the war?

vietnam war associated press photography book

Me, no–my father was rich–for rich boys–no war.

vietnam the real war

Rich fathers start wars for poor boys to fight and die in.

vietnam the real war

Rich men’s sons stay home and go to college and:

~~

Drink and chase girls all day and night.

~~

That was my war, angel:

~~

Drinking and whoring.

The Vietnam was a regular war.

vietnam the real war

What is common to all regular wars in man’s history?

Exit: In this March 29, 1973 photo, Camp Alpha, Uncle Sam's out processing center, was chaos in Saigon

They end.

Vietnam ended.

Bored: In this March 27, 1973 photo, an American GI takes a nap atop his luggage as he and other troops wait to begin out processing at Camp Alpha in Saigon

My war never ends.

When I said all this to the sweet Mexicana, she said to me that my words were:

Fear: In this 15 May 1965 photo, a Vietnamese mother and her son hide in bushes near Le My to escape fighting as U.S. Marines go past after clearing the village of Viet Cong forces

“Shameful and offensive to the poor boys who died in the War.”

I said to her:

Gruesome: The Vietnam War was wisely televised in the US and returning troops were targeted by protestors (photo from 1969)

The truth is offensive to those who died in the war?

War: In this 03 Aug 1965 photo, an aged woman injured by a U.S.-Vietnamese air strike on a Buddist monastery 40 miles southeast of Saigon is carried to a hospital by airborne private Carl Champ of Furgitsville, West Virginia

The truth is never an offense.

Chaos: Lines of bored soldiers snaked through customs and briefing rooms as they left Vietnam

A lie is always an offense.

Boarding: In a curious ending to a bizarre conflict, American troops boarded jets under the watchful eyes of North Vietnamese and Viet Cong observers in Saigon

Do not worry about causing an offense.

Welcome: In this Thursday, March 30, 1973 photo, the last 55 troops to leave Vietnam debark their Air Force C-141 at Travis Air Force Base

Worry instead about causing a lie to live unchallenged.

Perhaps the reason wars do not stop is because nobody speaks the truth about them.

Perhaps wars would stop tomorrow if rich men and their sons were the very first ones sent off to die.

Long war: Most were thrilled the Vietnam War, which had lasted more than a decade, was over for the US (photo from 1965)

"Jean-Marie Le Pen is a friend. He is dangerous for the political set because he's the only one who's sincere. He says out loud what many people think deep down, and what the politicians refrain from saying because they are either too demagogic or too chicken. Le Pen, with all his faults and qualities, is probably the only one who thinks about the interests of France before his own."~~

    • Here is a little note written just now:

True this all is about the decline of America, Michael Wendling, but as I just now mentioned to our friend, Dr Frank, in a meeting regarding his friend, Dr. Ben Carson..”Dr. Ben Carson wants to excite a national referendum on WHERE the majority of Americans want to go politically, and while right now, you and I and Dr. Ben Carson represent the majority weal, in a decade or less, we no longer will. So, for the left, it is a waiting game–they know that through mass indoctrination, mostly so of the very young and badly educated, they will win in the long run. In the long run, we are going to lose the race for America and Western civilization, amigo–so sorry to say–everything you just wrote about Michael Wendling, is only going to get worse–far, far, worse.” John Daniel Begg Public Affairs
