Lights out.

Barbara Tuckman’s “The Guns of August” says all what needs to be said and does so most eloquently of the run up to the Great War that utterly ended civilization.

That said: Trying to suss out the causes and villains of the Great War misses the only point of salience:

That point is that:

The Great War ended civilization.

Every moment since has simply seen an increase in the velocity of societal collapse into murder, war, anarchy, mayhem and barbarism.

Society and civilization won’t be back.

They are both gone.

Forever.

Schoolboys learn that:

Lamplighter:

“The lamps are going out all over Europe, we shall not see them lit again in our life-time,” British Foreign Secretary Sir Edward Grey may have remarked on the eve of Britain’s entry into the Great World War.

Sir Edward Grey. British Foreign Secretary. WWI. 1914.:

Regardless whether Lord Grey had in fact made such a statement then, it has earned wide currency and attention as an expression of popular
perception of the First World War.

Lord Grey massively understated things in this sense:

The lamps of civilized life will never be lit again.

Ever.
 The darkness is now permanent.

Tom Eliot at 10, in 1898. Sawyer Free Library, via Associated Press:

I do try very best to not make a habit of simply quoting the work of other men in place of doing a bit of my own, as is practice two a penny at this city today, but there are times when the other fellow says it as best as it likely can be said.

T. S. Eliot, London, 1939:

Such today is the case with the following work of Mr Christopher Ricks and Mr Joseph Bottum who I commence now to quote and end quoting when so stated.

We are being made aware that the organization of society on the principle of private profit, as well as public destruction, is leading both to the deformation of humanity by unregulated industrialism, and to the exhaustion of natural resources, and that a good deal of our material progress is a progress for which succeeding generations may have to pay dearly. ― T.S. T.S. Eliot, Poet for a Fallen Culture

Who remembers it? Who would even believe it now, when political thought, for left and right alike, lies shattered in a thousand pieces? Still, there really was a moment, from the late 1940s through the early 1960s, when all the different strands of conservative thought looked as though they might come together into a grand unified field theory—the coherent and whole answer of the West to the claims of communism. And somewhere near the center of it all stood the poetry of T.S. Eliot.

“Words move, music moves / Only in time; but that which is only living / can only die. Words, after speech, / reach / Into the silence.” —T.S. Eliot, Four Quartets:

In the strange conservative mix of that time was everything from the compelling simplicity of Richard Weaver’s anti-nominalism to the God-haunted landscapes of Flannery O’Connor’s stories. Add in the indefatigable historical research of Russell Kirk, the hard brilliance of Etienne Gilson’s neoscholastic Catholicism—even a little homegrown libertarianism and the Southern Fugitives’ agrarianism—and all the pieces seemed to be fitting together. Fitting together, that is, until suddenly they weren’t, and not even William F. Buckley could put them back together.

But perhaps the strangest ingredient—the most unbelievable bit for us, these days—was the role of Eliot’s work. Of course, part of the current unintelligibility comes with the decline of belief that poetry matters, that it ever really mattered: that within living memory there was a time when poetry was thought to be at the absolute center of culture.

But just as much, the peculiarity of Eliot’s place derives from the fact that he was a complete modernist in his verse, the leading practitioner of the literary revolution that turned against traditional poetry in the first half of the twentieth century. If conservatives wanted poets, Russell Kirk could point them to any number of snippets from the formal verse of Lord Tennyson and Victor Hugo.

That’s not to say that they didn’t recognize T.S. Eliot as the dominant poet and critic of his time, possibly as early as his publication of Prufrock and Other Observations in 1917 but certainly in the years after 1922, when he published The Waste Land and began his literary magazine, The Criterion. (Later editions of The Cambridge History of English Literature would name only two eras after a single writer: The Age of Dryden and The Age of Eliot.) But for the conservatives of the 1940s and 1950s, Eliot’s poetry was surely an unlikely choice for the signal banner under which they would gather.

Except, perhaps, for the fact that Eliot really was a modernist—and modernist literature was rarely a celebration of modern times. In a line often quoted by later neoconservatives, the critic Lionel Trilling opened The Liberal Imagination, his famous 1950 collection of essays, with a declaration that “there are no conservative or reactionary ideas in general circulation” in America, only “irritable mental gestures which seek to resemble ideas.” At the same time, he saw clearly—and tried in vain to teach the readers of his time—that literary modernism contained a profoundly anti-modern and anti-liberal streak. However much the smug liberalism of the day wanted to roll together all that seemed progressive in literature with all that seemed progressive in politics, such figures as Ezra Pound and D.H. Lawrence were never going to fit well with American liberalism.

And neither was T.S. Eliot. This winter, Johns Hopkins University Press issued The Poems of T.S. Eliot, a two-volume collection of his verse annotated by the Boston University scholar Christopher Ricks. As is usual for Ricks, the annotations are both brilliant and overwhelming—as one might have guessed when the first volume’s 340 pages of poetry are matched with 966 pages of notes. And in those pages there’s an occasion to think again about T.S. Eliot and what he meant for a generation of conservatism now long gone.

For all that The Wasteland would come to seem the definitive description of the failed civilization of the West in the years after the First World War—These fragments I have shored against my ruins—the clearest setting of Eliot’s thought may come in the juxtaposition of “The Hollow Men” (1925), the last of his serious works before his embrace of Anglican Christianity, and “Ash Wednesday” (1930), the first of his major Christian poems.

The use of broken repetition in both poems is a hint that the poems speak to each other: the brutal desert of the earlier poem answered in the delicate hope of the later. Was there ever a poem as grim as “The Hollow Men”? It reduces even the apocalypse to a whimper. The Wasteland uses its kaleidoscopic scenes to show a Western civilization that lacks both meaning and manners, but it is still in many ways a rich poem: thick with reference, ripe with the vocabulary of prior English poems (as Ricks so fully documents), and exuberant in its images. It declares, in its way, that poetry still serves the hygienic function of culture. It declares, in its way, that civilization is not so far gone that a poem cannot still help make a change. “The Hollow Men” has no such undertone. Stripped down to the bones of thought and language, it’s the worldview of Christianity—without Christ: a biblical poem of the emptiness the world would be without God, matched with the absence of God.

"For last year's words belong to last year's language and next year's words await another voice." T.S. Eliot:

But then, in “Ash Wednesday,” Eliot takes the dark worldview of “The Hollow Men” and reintroduces a little bit of God. Christendom has still failed, and culture no longer makes sense. But the Church and conversion may nonetheless remain possible. The faith of a believer may remain true—or even shine more clearly—despite the decline that marks the history of the civilization that carried those truths.

The irreplaceable appeal of Eliot for conservatives of the 1940s and 1950s shows in the settings for that two-part vision. Only modernism could convey sufficiently the negative part: The breakdown of traditional civilization had to be echoed in the objective correlative of the breakdown of traditional verse. This wasn’t free verse as a declaration of new freedom. This was free verse as a howl that culture itself had failed.

Valerie & T. S. Eliot by Angus McBean, 1957:

And the prestige of Eliot’s modernism allowed a new expression of the Christianity he came to embrace: a universal recognition of the power of his expression in Four Quartets, the play Murder in the Cathedral, and the choruses from The Rock. The failed culture could not hear the power in the old forms it had lost, but the new form could convey Eliot’s quiet, delicate, and thoughtful faith.

Or could it? Reduced to its barest elements, modernity is the substitution of science for theology, history for philosophy, and the self for the soul. Eliot had little patience with the pretensions of science, but even he was not fully able to escape the other two modern turns. The negative critique of his modernism is essentially genealogical rather than metaphysical, and The Wasteland is a poem more about history than philosophy.

For that matter, the text of Four Quartets is more about the self than the soul. The poems use the theological language of finishing a journey to describe the theological event of beginning a journey. The vocabulary the mystics used to describe their visions of God is slid down the scale to become a vocabulary for the poet’s first coming to faith. Mysticism is transformed into conversion, and the turn of the self becomes the more poetically important journey of the soul.

By the mid-1960s, the goal of a unified conservative theory had failed, exposed as a mirage. Reagan’s big-tent Republicanism could unite the disparate elements for an election, but no coherent political theory would emerge to hold together the thought of paleoconservatives and neoconservatives, neothomists and libertarians, Straussians and Voegelinians. After the fall of Soviet communism, what remained for the various kinds of conservatives to share? Not even opposition to abortion seems to drive them toward unity anymore.

As it happens, for readers of T.S. Eliot, that might prove something of a gain. Christopher Ricks’s edition of The Poems of T.S. Eliot can remind us of just how good a writer Eliot was—particularly once he has been set free. If we force Eliot to occupy a symbolic place in modern thought, he proves a symbol of failure. If we read him instead only as a poet, he proves a master of the language. Perhaps the greatest the dismal twentieth century knew.

Coldness and Death.

Thoughts On First Finding Love In A Hospital

By

JOHN DANIEL BEGG

 Leo Tolstoy with his granddaughter:

The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Leo Tolstoy:

Count Tolstoy’s masterwork The Death of Ivan Ilyich is the seminal work on the subject of death and dying and very likely will remain so forever.  A great number of distressing thoughts about death and about Ivan Ilyich’s personality and character race through the mind on reading that novella, and on contemplating it anew many years after first exposure.  Chief among these contemplations are sheer astonishment at Ivan Ilyich’s apparent utter lack of connection to his own life, and his approaching death, except upon the most superficial level, the distance he places between himself and his family, and they from him, the burden he becomes to them as his illness progresses and the coldness and insularity of the whole process of death.  There is in this tale no warmth whatsoever.  The coldness that always accompanies death long precedes death in the case of Ivan Ilyich because he lives in an icy world in which only the material concerns of the day-to-day matter to him or to any of his intimates.  It is not over-reaching to suggest that Ivan Ilyich’s death occurred long before the cancer took him.  He was a man constitutionally incapable of love and Count Tolstoy presents him to the reader as a caution.  The life altogether unexamined, the life without love, is a life that never really took place at all.

 young tolstoy - Google Search:

Our having met a remarkable man occasions this flight of thought on a recent visit to the Neue Wicker Kliniken in Bad Nauheim, Germany.  There are a number of special things about Wicker Clinic that are recounted in the article.  Yet, what struck us as most compelling was the insistence of the founder, Werner Wilhelm Wicker, to speak of love as a primary ingredient in his clinic’s offerings to the sick.  To speak of love in a hospital tries the credulity of an American.  Yet, Herr Wicker has been phenomenally successful as the operator of various types of clinics and spas in Germany for nearly four decades.  He is a man who deserves proper attention when he speaks of the techniques he employs and recommends to the medical fraternity.

 Tolstoy:

If Herr Wicker were simply a successful businessman who made his substantial living working with the seriously ill, he would not be all that compelling a man to write about.  Herr Wicker is much more than a sharp businessman.  As with Count Tolstoy himself, Herr Wicker is very much of a mystic.  He believes in the soul as an integral part of the body.  Herr Wicker is surrounded in his office by statuettes of Dhanvantari, who in India serves as the God Protector of Ayurveda, a philosophy that in turn is a governing principle of Herr Wicker’s Neue Wicker Kliniken in Bad Nauheim.  In Indian lore, Dhanvantari brought the science of medicine to the earth.  In whatever manner medicine made its way to earth, Americans largely missed out on the mystical element Herr Wicker so stresses.  This strikes the observer on first blush as unfortunate because to have missed out on this element of medicine, and indeed of life itself, leaves Americans at a decided disadvantage when dealing with illness and death.  As with Ivan Ilyich, Americans face the lamentable situation of approaching such inevitable and disconcerting facts as illness and death with little more than the physical elements to consider for solace and comfort.

 Leo Tolstoy is riding a horseback. 1909. He is 81 years old. #Leo_Tolstoy:

Indian Gods and their contributions to the medical arts are surely interesting, but what truly rivets the American listener is to hear Herr Wicker speak of love.  We sat on chair’s end.  What vague role could love play in treating cancer, modern man’s deadly, intractable and so inscrutable enemy?  Herr Wicker considers the Neue Wicker Kliniken to be the flagship of his extensive holdings in spa clinics and treatment centers in Germany.  Herr Wicker also considers that the new clinic represents the future of cancer treatment and likewise the treatment of other very serious maladies.  What sets the new clinic apart from present day medical practice is that there is a conscious recognition on the part of Herr Wicker and all his staff that love is a necessary component part of future medical practice.

 Leo Tolstoy (1828 – 1910) with his granddaughter Tatiana (1905 – 1996) in the armchair. 1909. #Leo_Tolstoy:

Herr Wicker expands a bit on this concept.  “This is my last clinic.  In this clinic, I am trying to combine all of the things I have learned in four decades of work.  I want to put into a concentrated practice all of the beliefs I have come to hold over these many years.  The focus now is on treatments that really work.  A man’s personal and work life are as one.  In the same way, if there is a personal development in your life, it must influence your work and vice versa.  True healing from disease must involve the body, the mind and the soul treated in tandem with each other and supported by medicine itself.  It is this holistic attitude that has brought me today to alternative medicine.  I do not reject conventional medicine.  Yet, conventional medicine must evolve and be open to new concepts.  The holistic approach has in turn led me to spirituality in my view of medicine.  From the spiritual, flows love.  The energy of love is flowing to the patients from the clinic and from the philosophy that guides it.  We now are in a house—more a house than a clinic or a hospital.  We are in a house that offers something very rare.  Patients know that there is love in this house.  Knowing this makes the patients feel better and there is simply no question that when the patient feels better that is of direct benefit to the patient’s healing and recovery.”

 Tolstoy and his wife Sophia Tolstaya, September 23, 1910:

Well then, there it is.  Modern medical practice does indeed to our mind run a risk when it views disease as something divorced from the aspects of man’s life that do not specifically have to do solely with the physical.  We have said this before.  We have said that as this Foundation continues its fascinating exploration of the alternative and complementary medical procedures that, in the better cases, serve as models of the evolution and progression in cancer treatment, we are mindful that both the tangible aspects and the intangible aspects of our existence ought appropriately guide and govern the medical arts.  While the rules of sound scientific inquiry evident in formal medical training are necessary and to a degree absolute, there is a most necessary need for consideration of the intangible aspects.  Our approach considers man as far more than simply the sum of his physical properties.  He is also a mind, a spirit and a soul.

 Leo Tolstoy:

We have not as yet specifically considered love as an element of the healing process.  Yet, as with anyone, we are certainly aware that man strives to love and be loved.  We are aware that love’s absence produces a discernable melancholia.  Thus, it strikes us as appropriate that love be a factor in the equation that governs a complete and systemic approach to serious disease.  The need for love is not a high school triviality.  It is arguably the primary motivator in life.  As to the conscious use of the “energy of love,” at Neue Wicker Kliniken, and the potentiality for the use of it in standard medicine, one is reminded of Lord Chesterton’s words in a another context “Christianity has not been tried and found a failure, it has simply not been tried.”

 Leo Tolstoy 1851:

Count Tolstoy puts his despairing character Ivan Ilyich on his deathbed, thinking this: None love me and I love none, I do not even love myself.  Such a character is not likely to get better.  He is not likely to even desire to get better.  It is pointless.  And, at day’s end, Count Tolstoy’s message to us is just that:  the unexamined life, the life devoid of love, is pointless.  We’ve no idea if Herr Wicker is aware that his philosophical antecedents include not only Indian Gods who brought medicine to the earth but also Count Tolstoy and his pitiful character Ivan Ilyich, but we think that love, as a handmaiden of medical practice ought not be dismissed as having been found a failure until it has been formally tried.  Herr Wicker is to be commended for formally introducing love into the confines of a hospital.  We find it laudable of him to have done so.  We were blissfully fascinated on first finding love being actively practiced in a hospital and we’d like to see a lot more of that.  Love does not cure any disease of the body, but love’s beneficial effects upon the mind, soul and spirit are potent medicine in anyone’s textbook.

Narcissism means that one is hypnotically beautiful.

September 26 2015: Nyquist with Mario Gutierrez up wins the Frontrunner Stakes at Santa Anita Park, Arcadia CA. Alex Evers/ESW/CSM

Del Mar Futurity winner Nyquist keeps the undefeated streak alive at @santaanitapark Opening Day.:

“Well when you’re sitting back in your rose pink Cadillac

Making bets on Kentucky Derby Day

Ah, I’ll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon

And another girl to take my pain away.”

Kentucky Derby Party Ideas

So very, so terribly very, soon after the Roses of the Derby Day have withered and are, but dead flowers, the name of the Derby winner will yet be assured of racing immortality.

Man has opinions, horses have facts.

~~

Back home in England, from whence the Derby comes, from whence, we all come, we have an expression that, if not categorically factual, at a minimum is a good bar to go by:
We say that:

~~

Blood will out.

I will leave to the number men their furious arithmetic calculations and simply say that The Derby is not about numbers on a page but rather about:

~~

BLOOD and BEAUTY.

And, so we go now, on to the boys of Saturday afternoon, 7th May, 2016 and their date with the ROSES…~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

nyquist_ashfordstud
 Baby Nyquist

A star is born:

~~

Horse play

~~

As all our Nanas told us:

~~

Blood will:
~~

OUT.

 ~
Be cautioned:

~~

Andrew Beyer can, and often has, proven, a very powerful impediment to a horse with rose-colored blinkers on.

~~

You know our Andrew, nice Jewish boy Andrew, who, by very odd legerdemain, inherited the, abruptly vanished, Gentlemanly Jewish boy, Gerald Strine’s, newspaper column in the Washington Post.

~~

Andrew is the quintessential Washington boy:
~~

 Hired and paid, rather well we understand, to do something, the particularities of which:

~~

Andrew knows nothing about at all.

~~

Think of him as a contemporary politician.

~~

Andrew broke into racing;

~~

Can that possibly be the correct phrase to describe what happened?
~

By writing a book called “Picking winners,” which is, at a minimum, comedic, as:

113132

Our Andrew can neither write, nor pick winners.

~~

Again, the quintessential Washington man.
~~
As point of reference, our Andrew bet against Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Affirmed and Spectacular Bid, to cover the high points of the 1970’s alone.

~~

To our best recollection, our Andrew has, never, ever, bet on a winning Derby horse that he has endorsed in his little newspaper column.

~~

EVER.

~~

In his little book, Andrew makes the classic, and sad mistake, of attempting to reduce our dazzling enterprise called racing to:

~~

An arithmetical exercise!!

~~

How dismal, Andrew!!

~~

Racing is about, beauty, power, blood lines and luck, and never about arithmetic.

~~

Of course Andrew is a Washington man and of course, his little arithmetic equations are now adopted, you guessed it, wholesale, as Scripture, into the lexicon and newspapers of the racing business, in which horses are assigned this mind-numbing calculation:

~~

A Beyer Speed Figure!!

~~

A number that, by justice, ought to eliminate the highest Beyer number from any and all consideration.

~~

Selecting winning horses, as with many other enterprises, is a process of elimination:

~~

Hence:

~~
The Kentucky Derby is affirmation for one horse, brought on by the elimination of the other horses in the race.

~~

That’s it:

~~

That’s all there is to it all.

~~

As we know in the clubhouse far better here than do most, that, as government ought not be run as a business, as government is not and has never been intended to be a business but rather a necessary evil, arithmetic has no place in racing which is about:

~~

BEAUTY.
BEAUTY.
BEAUTY.

~~

Today we were to the doctor, lovely girl, Polish, and of course, Catholic, who grew up in Warsaw under the Communists, who said to us:

~~

“John Begg, everybody knows that Herrenfrau Clinton will win the Presidency in 2016.”

~~

We are old softies here, in our clubhouse, for pretty girls, so, we didn’t laugh, we simply said:

~~

“OH!!

~~

Doctor dearest, we’ve heard that tune, it was popular when you were a young girl in Poland in 2006 and 2007.

~~

The tune was released back then as:

~~

“The Inevitability of Hillary 2008.”

~~

The tune had a catchy toe tap to it, but the story line, somehow just didn’t work out.

~~

So sorry, love.”

~~

Politics is most appropriately about having startlingly good ideas and about making direct appeals to:

~

Raw emotion.
EMOTION.
EMOTION.
EMOTION.

~~

Yes, we said:

~~

Appeals to raw:
EMOTION.

~~

Shortly, you, my dears will have our Andrew’s note about the Inevitability of his Derby.

~

As with our Andrew’s ham~handed attempts to reduce the beauty of our sparkling sport of racing to arithmetic, there are many in this, not pretty city, who would reduce politics to number counts and arithmetic as well, unaware that:

~~
POLITICS is about EMOTION, Andrew.  Horse racing is about BEAUTY.

YOUNG JOHN DANIEL BEGG’S

~~

“MAGNIFICENT IMPOSSIBILITY”

~~

Penned  on 6th  May, 2016, Friday by  under Society

~~

That Magnificent Impossibility:

~~

Here, achieved!!

~~

My dears, when I was young, long, long, years now, I had but 2 ambitions:

~~

To be a great writer and an even better race rider.

~~

Few get to live their dreams.

~~

Most of us are relegated to watching, in grief and some sadness, as others realize our dreams for us.

~~

Before the savage combat, the Derby is led off, at parade to the post, by a song that, if it does not bring a tear to the eye, is evidence prima facie of one’s having no heart or emotion of any kind.

~~

Attend, please:

“My Old Kentucky Home” lyrics

~~

State Song of Kentucky – Contemporary lyrics (1986)
Originally by Stephen Foster
~~

The sun shines bright in My Old Kentucky Home,
‘Tis summer, the people are gay;

The corn-top’s ripe and the meadow’s in the bloom

While the birds make music all the day.

~~

The young folks roll on the little cabin floor,
All merry, all happy and bright;
By ‘n’ by hard times comes a knocking at the door,
Then My Old Kentucky Home, good night!
~~

Chorus
~~

Weep no more my lady
Oh!! weep no more today;
We will sing one song
For My Old Kentucky Home
For My Old Kentucky Home, far away.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Blood on the turf~~blood on the saddle~~
~~
Be it running in tumult and sweet triumph:
~~
In fully extended motion.
~~
Or spilt and shattered in painful passion:
~~
Is royal, noble, pure, blue blood come Derby Day.
horse-racing-action_96019-1280x800 (1)
The great John Steinbeck described the Kentucky Derby as “one of the most beautiful and violent and satisfying things” he had ever experienced.
The Kentucky Derby, run first Saturday of May at Churchill Downs beneath the Twin Spires, is:
~~
What the irrepressible horseman and social gadabout, John Daniel Begg, long ago christened:
~~
~~
“That Magnificent Impossibility.”
~~
The Kentucky Derby
~~
This year, That Magnificent Impossibility, looms May
7th 2016
~~
.
The Kentucky Derby is, beyond reasoned argument, the most enchanting of all social and sporting events in the American calendar.
~~
It is over in 2 minutes.
~~
The Derby  is colorful, dramatic, thrilling, awe-inspiring and absolutely impossible to suss out.
~~
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dn_ZbX60Oa4
~~
The horses who compete in the Derby are babies.
~~
The race is limited to 3 year olds:
~~
But many are not even full that tender age.
~~
All thoroughbreds have their birthday on January 1st, so, conceivably, a horse could be one minute old in real life and yet a full year old the next minute.
~~
Conversely, one would like one’s horse born as early on New Year’s Day as possible.
~~
Just a minute past the champagne.
~~
Both outcomes are unlikely as the foaling cycle is in spring.
~~
But just when in Spring is important.
~~
One will have a “young three” or an “old three,” dependent upon one’s luck
.
~~The difference of a few months is terribly important as the horses running in Derby are well off of being fully mature.
~~
An age reached at full 4 years.
~~
And many are just coming into themselves:
~~
While others developed very young, already made their flash in the pan, and are already past their prime periods.
~~
They peaked too soon.
~~
By Derby Day they are what we call “jaded.”
~~
Over raced.
~~
OFF peak.
~~
Worn, wan, frayed and just plain tired.
~~
We all pray that it be God’s Will will that all who race and ride be spared the violent savagery that can, and does, attend this most beautiful of God’s Sports, even as many others have not been so spared in the going of :
~~
That happy, colorful event, that beautiful race:
~~
That Magnificent Impossibility.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

That thing which can’t be done, yet yearly, is, somehow, done.

~~

I will leave to the number men their furious, frantic, arithmetic calculations, scribbling additions and subtractions and arcane dialect and simply say that The Derby is not about numbers on a page but rather about:

~~

BLOOD AND BEAUTY

On 7th May, 2016, Saturday, that which simply cannot be done, will be done by:
NYQUIST

Luther King had a dream one deep night that turned out to be a horrid daylight nightmare.

The Kings at Home

Born in Atlanta, Martin Luther King, Jr. and his new wife Coretta moved to Montgomery, Alabama, in 1955 after King accepted a position as pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church.

Luther King had a dream, composed deep in the warm, dark, cozy night.

~~
As with all dreams, the cold, harsh, brittle, grey, glaring, shallowness of morning revealed that dream, as with all pleasant slumbers, to be a mere respite from the:

Horrid….
Nightmare that is all human daylight.
All nighttime dreams vanish in the morning sun.

      “I am here to rule mankind.”

      “Jean-Marie Le Pen is a friend. He is dangerous for the political set because he’s the only one who’s sincere. He says out loud what many people think deep down, and what the politicians refrain from saying because they are either too demagogic or too chicken. Le Pen, with all his faults and qualities, is probably the only one who thinks about the interests of France before his own.”~~
