I am sent today a missive from but one of the half-million political experts at this city, who know virtually nothing of Washington and absolutely nothing at all about the Americans, that Mr Trump’s Presidential campaign is a pipe dream.

All Presidential ambitions are pipe dreams.

Looked at impartially, at birth, nobody has a China man’s chance of being President.

In my lifetime, most Presidents have come from poor, nondescript, social backgrounds.

When they grow up, nobody yet has a China man’s chance of being President except those who run.

That’s why Presidential election is the lesser Kentucky Derby, meaning less important than the real Kentucky Derby run first Saturday every May.

In both horse racing and political racing, everybody is an expert until the gates open–after which frenetic moment, nobody knows the winner.

Nobody.

Until the finish.

For both candidates and fans, you pay your money and buy your ticket and look heavenward to the Racing Gods for luck.

Because it is, in the end, luck that wins it.

The only categorical is that you have to be in the race.

After that, it’s racing luck.

The Presidential candidate who gets elected and the race horse who wins the Derby just happen to be there when the wheel goes round and lands on their number and then one little China man finally gets his garland of roses…to keep for a brief minute..until the next race.

There’s always the next race.

Another pipe dream maybe.

But as we now all clearly see:

All of life is but a pipe dream.

How short the list one could compile of those of whom it can be said that fame and money did not deprave?

At Washington, capital city of the terminally self-absorbed, mortal man holds to fleeting, feeble and fallible opinion, God immutable fact.
